declare the winter dead.

I love how it's Fall, but it feels like it generally would in January/February.
I have one more week of school.
Excited, but then again not, because I have way too much to do.
Double edged sword type deal.

Sunday is Quietdrive, Danger Is My Middle Name, and Cavashawn at Mojoes Soundlab (I texted Chris earlier; he had no idea about the venue change.  Great, right?).
I'm really hoping to hit it up because Chelsey Jane Rahr Foster is coming down for the show and I haven't seen her since Ribfest in June.
Ahhhhh!! Excited!

Before that, the Spill Canvas has an acoustic in-store performance at Best Buy and a show with OneRepublic later on that night, but since I might be at QD, I really hope I can go to the acoustic show.

How fucking adorable are they??

I'm watching "Mama's Boy" right now.
The commercial looked promising, but the actual movie isn't so great.
But ZOMG, Howard from "The Big Bang Theory" is in it.
This makes me want to watch something that's actually funny, like "Grandma's Boy."
Nick Swardson FTW.

Ok...I'm tired.

P.S. I still need a haircut.

Change.

I voted. Now it's your turn.

I'm hoping to go downtown to at least witness/document the massive crowd that's going to be down there.
Drew is got someone to let him be their plus one, so us hanging outside of Grant Park is scrapped.
Whatevz.
I'm possibly going to shoot on over to HOB to do some Cavashawn and Frantic promoting after the Hanson show (Day 2).

Saturday, I should see you here:

And Sunday, if you have a ticket, I hope to see you here:

Jack's Mannequin, Treaty of Paris, & Fun @ The Bottom Lounge

XD can't wait for this weekend.

i must be out of my mind.

cavashawn at beat kitchen yesterday.
scott got a haircut.
i know, right?
it was pretty packed in there, and i guess there were about 40 presales, which gets them in good with the venue.
i'm very proud of them.

that's all i have to say.

This is going to be an uneventful Halloween.
Going to my aunt's house for my aunt and grandpa's birthdays.
Meh.

I'm stoked.
Fosh.

That's it for now.

(They are so adorable.)

SO.
I'm pretty much stoked for Anberlin coming to Chicago next week.
I've been listening to them since like my sophomore year, but this year, I REALLY started getting into them.
But yeah, I'm excited.
So excited, I made a header for this blog at 3 in the morning.
I don't have Photoshop on this computer, but yay for Picnik.

The Distance is Spanned Between You and I

If I have alarmed you, I didn't try
I'm tongue tied
I've got to be honest, I'm terrified to fly blind
I tried to disarm you I played this part a thousand times
The hunter's the hunted
I'm terrified
I'm open wide

The distance is spanned between you and I
Can I see you tonight?
When the pen in our hands and our best laid plans
Will stand alone on our side

I wanted to have this under control
The story told
You came and rewrote it opened the door I've never known
You say that you hold them, the sands of time
You never lie
They pull like a current
I call to shore
There's no reply

The distance is spanned between you and I
Can I see you tonight?
When the pen in our hands and our best laid plans
Will stand alone on our side

And I never wanted anything like this before

The distance is spanned between you and I
Can I see you tonight?
When the pen in our hands and our best laid plans
Will stand alone on our side

The bridges that stand between you and I
Come over tonight
When the pen in our hands and our best laid plans
Will stand alone on our side

Of mice and men on our side

I make different playlists/mixes for each month, and for October, I decided I wanted a "chill mix," something to listen to when I felt like relaxing.
I decided to give We the Living's album, Heights of the Heavens, a listen to for the first time since Warped Tour.
I absolutely love these guys.

Check them out.

Pointless...

He said, "Sam, I miss you.  I've gotta go, but let's catch up later."
That made me cry.
I wish we were friends like we were before.

Hodge Podge

Mmm, yeah definitely haven't updated in a while.
Sunday was a blasty blast.  I definitely needed it.
I picked up Mandy and Tracy and we headed down to DePaul University in Lincoln Park.
Found a wonderful parking spot just feet away from the quad, which I definitely think wasn't gonna happen.  One of the first highlights of my night.
We got to talk a bit with Cavashawn before their set, which was stellar.
The boys played a great set, minus the fact that the sound guys were a little too trigger happy with the echo effect.
The food was pretty much gone.  Didn't eat.  End of story.
Then Tonka played.  My god, those guys never disappoint.  They're so freaking fantastic.
They had a bunch of new tunes.  Sounding good, fellas.
After the show, we chilled a bit with Jesse, Ben, Scott, and Chris.
Always a pleasure.
I missed those boys, fo sho.

Jesse & I.

Ben & I.

Chris & I.

Scott & I.

They're currently in the studio, working on a new EP.
It's gonna be ballin'.
Shot callin'.

Um, I was supposed to go out with Heather tonight and see The Ataris and American Taxi.
But guess who couldn't find her license?
That's right.  Me.
I searched everywhere and after not being able to find it, I started crying.
So yeah, Monday (aka my birthday) will be spent at the DMV with proper documentation and five bucks so I can get a new one.
Happy birthday to me.
BUT it must be done, because next Friday night...
is...
BEN FOLDS AT CONGRESS THEATER.
I've never seen him live, but Amanda says I'm in for a treat.
I love me some pianer.

What else...?
Oh.  Thanks to Meesh, I am now able to see Jack's Mannequin & Treaty of Paris' sold out show.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I am very excited. :D

That's pretty much it, I guess.
Yeah.

Cavashawn, Tonka, & "Ozzie Guillen"

Cavashawn and Ha Ha Tonka are playing at DePaul today.
The boys have been gone for a month, and I haven't seen Tonka since Ribfest,
so you could say that I'm pretty stoked.

I'll update about the show later tonight.
:D

P.S.

MadTV, you're hilarious.

Words Like Violence Break the Silence

All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here in my arms
Words are very unnecessary
They can only do harm...

Here's how I see it.
If you can cover "Enjoy the Silence" by Depeche Mode very well,
then you're a really good band.

Grandma Knees

I wake up to the phone ringing and hop out of bed.
I end up stepping on a three ring binder which causes me to slide a little and fall on my left knee.
I tried getting up but ended up falling on my left knee again; like I couldn't walk at all.
I was just sitting there thinking, "What the hell is going on with me?"
I got really scared, haha.

I'm sure none of you know this, but when I was in 7th grade, I stayed home sick from school, and of course my little Filipino aunt who was living with us at the time said, "Put on socks; they'll keep you warm."
So I did.
I was in the kitchen and I started seeing stars.
Not knowing what to do, I walked over to the living room, about 30 feet away so I could lie down on the couch.
While I was walking there, my speed started picking up, unintentionally.
I slipped on my socks, busted my left knee, and also hit my jaw.
Nothing happened to my jaw; it just caused my lower lip to get cut up by my top teeth.  Hot.
And my busted knee continues to hurt to this very day whenever something knocks into it.

So what I really could have just said was:
"My knee fucking hurts like hell right now, I have to clean my room, and I fucking hate Mondays."

P.S. Happy 14th birthday to my brother.

Sunday, September 21, 2008

Hey, Hermano.

So, I'm watching Arrested Development and I've come a conclusion:

I really, really, really miss this show and Jason Bateman is very cute.

Saturday, September 20, 2008

Ludo, whut!?

Holy deposit slips, Batman.  It's Saturday Sunday (it was Saturday when I started).

So I decided to change my layout, since Miss Chelsey Foster decided to steal mine.  She is a thieving individual. As 30H!3 would say, "Don't trust the ho, never trust the ho..."
(JUST KIDDING (but not really...))

I really have nothing to say about today except that I thoroughly dislike my job and can't wait for it to be November so I can fucking quit.
What do I do? I work at a church rectory.  Yeah.
I realized how much I hate it today when:
- this one priest who works there who I thought was a bit odd, but still alright, came in and was almost yelling at me for being late (I was 10 minutes late.  Sorry for not having a car and having to walk over there), and then when I was actually doing my job by asking him a question someone called about, he said, "I have no idea."  You're supposed to know these things.
- someone called asking to talk to a priest about the special mass today (Francis Cardinal George came), so I went to the kitchen where he was and said, "Someone is on the phone, wanting to talk to a priest," and he said, "Tell them I'm busy."  That's been maybe the fourth or fifth time he's done that.  And then I feel like a total dumb ass, telling the person that there was someone there, then saying that they're not available.
- people call asking about things like CCD (Sunday School) or something that I wasn't trained to handle (I wasn't trained at all; we just had to answer phones) and I have to sound stupid and say, "I'm sorry, I have no idea" because I can't ask one of the priests because for some reason, they're never around, and sometimes I get an, "Alright, thank you" or a "What do you mean? Go find out."  Yeah, peace be with you too, you bastards.
- the head priest comes in saying that he's going to replace me if I'm late again.  And then I cried a little when he left.  You know what? Maybe I just won't come into work.  Fire me.  I've been waiting 3 years for it.

The only reason I'm sticking with it is because I desperately need the money, which isn't much ($7.50 an hour, but I work an average of 3 to 5 hours a week) and one of the girls who works there has volleyball tournaments or practice every Saturday until the middle of November, so I have to take over.

I need to find a job downtown.  It's going to be so difficult, and I'm pretty much swamped with school but I really need the money.
I'm trying to save up for school, obviously, but there are a few shows that I wanna go to, but they're a bit pricey, like Ben Folds and Jack's Mannequin/Treaty of Paris.

Not enjoying life at this moment.

I did enjoy life most thoroughly last night though.
Went to the Conaway Canter with Heather, which was cool, because we haven't actually hung out since Mobfest.
We met up with Claire, Kady, Lindsey, Kat, and a couple of their friends from their building.
Amanda, Agata, and their friends came as well.
Then Drew showed up and hung around with us.
We ate barbecue chicken pizza and drank little shot glass sized cups of this tea that tasted like apple juice (which prompted me to later purchase a bottle of apple juice at 7-11 after the show).
Danced to Kid Color, jammed to Matt and Kim (who I surprisingly enjoyed; they've just got so much energy, and they're funny as hell (Matt mostly)), and had an all around bitchin' good time with Ludo, as per usual.
My favorite part of their set was during "Hum Along," where the crowd sings "Maybe you'll be kidnapped by pirates..." because only a select handful of us knew it, so it was very cute. :D
After the show, I found Rac and Nickolas, who I didn't know was coming, so I was pretty stoked when I saw him.  We hung out for a bit until they started kicking us out.
Heather and I took the Blue Line back, but of course, she forgot to inform me that they were doing construction (I don't take the L on weekends) and we had to get off at Addison, 4 stops from where we were gonna get off.
So my dad came and picked us up.  Whew.

That's pretty much it right now.
Sorry it's pretty long.
(That's what she said.  Am I right? -high five-)
I'm in dire need of sleep, so I guess this will finish it off.

Kudos if you read this all.

P.S. I lied.  Here's a video of "Please."  I don't think I've ever heard them play it live.  Speaking of which, I've never heard them play "Mutiny Below" live, so...they better get on that.

I also have one of "Topeka," but you gotta go here for that:

You can see some of my other videos there.  Party.

Singin' Dolla Dolla Bill, Ya'll

So. Holiday Parade put out a song called "Slam Crunk," and it's a "rap mash-up cover."
It goes from "Sweetest Girl" by Wyclef Jean (SINGIN' DOLLA DOLLA BILL, YA'LL) to "Baby's Got Back" by Sir Mix-A-Lot to "Crank That" by Soulja Boy.
It's got a nice sound to it and the singer's got a great voice.
It's just amazingly catchy.

Download it. It's free. You'll love it. Trust me.
(Did I just rhyme?)
http://www.purevolume.com/holidayparade

Yeah, that's all I have right now.

P.S. LUDO TOMORROW! Awww shit (Dip Dip).

Free Shows?! What?!

Yes, Jesse.
Blog.

Yesterday was such a tiring day.
I completely forgot to read the Malcolm X essay for English, and of course, we get a quiz on it. -_-;
Went to Chipotle, which of course, was fucking delicious, seeing as how I haven't had Chipotle since last summer.

Honestly, Friday can't come fast enough.
Oh, what's Friday, you might ask?

I haven't seen these guys since Warped tour, and that didn't even count. It was so packed in there, I could only see Convy, so you could say I'm pretty stoked.

The 28th can't be here fast enough either. I'm so so so so so excited for this:

:D Everyone should be there. What's good about it is that no student I.D. is required. You just go and have a bitchin' good time with free food and free tunes.

Yeah, so I guess I'm gonna leave soon. I've got drawing from 6:00p-9:50p.
I know, right?
Regardless of class times, I really think I should start getting up a little bit earlier.
But I don't think that's going to happen.

P.S. On my way to the bus yesterday, I almost stepped on two cicadas doing the nasty.

Laziness + Lack of Sleep = ?

Yeah.
I really hate Mondays.
Like I said, I woke up around 1, which I thought would be fine, but for some reason unbeknown to myself, it severely threw off my sleep schedule.
I'm usually up until 3 at the latest, but I didn't get to sleep until 5-fucking-30.

I woke up at 12 and it is almost 12:40.
I really don't know what I've been doing for these past 40 minutes.
God, I'm out of it.

I have class until 9:20 tonight, so we'll see how that goes.
I might just buy a huge vanilla iced coffee again.
That seemed to work well.

Chipotle for dinner?
I'm thinking yes.

IFHM [I Fucking Hate Mondays]

"Uh oh. Sounds like somebody's got a case of the Mondays."

I do, actually, but not in a sense where I'm bitching and complaining about early morning school/work.
I hate Mondays because I don't do anything.
I woke up at around 1 p.m. today, just because I could.
I sit around the house and maybe clean up a little.
Everyone's in school, so I can't do anything.
My birthday's on a Monday this year (exactly 3 weeks).
Will I have fun?
Probably not.

At least it stopped raining...

Quick Intro

Let's see how long I'm going to keep this for.
I'm pretty sure I made one (or two) where there's one post.
So... positive thoughts with this one.

Quick intro.
My name's Sam, and my initials spell S.A.M. (I know, right?)
I am from Chicago and I also attend school here.
I really don't plan on leaving.
I think a majority of that decision is based on the fact that I love the music scene here.
It's a huge part of my life.
Besides music, I enjoy taking pictures and listening to comedians.
I like to laugh, so if you have someone you think I should check out, hook me up.
I also have some of the most amazing friends and I'm glad I know them.
You should be jealous.

That's basically it.
If you want to know anything else, just let me know :]
Alright, later.
